One in every four women will experience domestic violence in her lifetime . My client, let's call her Laura, is one of those women.
Laura was beaten day after day, month after month, and year after year by her husband whom she met in 2001. Despite the two wonderful children they had together, Laura's husband threatened her at gun point, slammed and threw her into walls and doors, and verbally abused her to the point she thought she was worthless. Her husband also left threatening messages on her phone explaining in detail how he would beat, rape, and kill her if she left him. After one particular beating, Laura spent three months in the hospital recovering from her injuries.
The abuse became too much for Laura. She took her children and found a safe house.=
Laura contacted my office to obtain a Family ViolenceTemporary Protective Order. Taking this step is a difficult part of the process for many individuals who are abused, as most of the time the victims of domestic violence do not want their relationship to end; they just want the violence to stop.
Richman Law Firm fought hard for Laura and her children. Today, on July 19, 2013, the judge granted Laura a one year protection order. We won, and now Laura is free. Free from the abuse, free from the threats, and free to live her life.
